Public discussion of Truso commission researching results
At 11:00 on September 26th, 2013, a meeting will be held at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia to evaluate the impact of boring a well (owned by the leaseholder Ltd Kasara) on the surrounding natural formations, such as the Truso Travertine, Abano Mineral Water Lake andKeterisi Karst Spring located in the territory of Kazbegi National Park in Truso Valley.
According to the agenda, stakeholders will discuss the resultsof the commission’s research and review the report they have prepared based on their field studies. The following topics will be reviewed:
- Official documents regarding leasing issues and the processes taking place at the research site, such as permissions granted to the leaseholder, results of the studies conducted on the research objects, established quota for carbon dioxide extraction and subsequent plans (to build a CO2 extraction plant near the village of Kobi and put a pipeline connecting the plant with the well);
- The status and the current changes to the natural formations, such as Truso Travertine, Abano Mineral Water Lake and Keterisi Karst Spring, the last one have not yet received the status of being a natural monument;
- Granting the permission to build and operate an extraction plant, as well as review the possibilities for establishing the pipeline.
The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, as well as Agency of Protected Areas together with the Non-Public (NGO) Sector and expert geologists.
