Kolkheti National Park Additional Sightseeing of the Region

It is possible to visit various historical-cultural monuments in the support zone of Kolkheti National Park, namely: 

  • Nokalakevi (IV-III cc. BC - IV-V cc. AD), Tsikhegoji, Archeopolis - is one of the most significant monuments of early medieval period of Georgia. It is located in the north-east of Senaki Municipality, at a distance of 17 km. In order to get to Nokalakevi, you have to take the direction from Senaki toward Martvili. The antique city is located near the main road. 
  • Khobi Monastery (XIII - XIY cc.) - is located in village Nojikhevi of Khobi Municipality, 4 km away from the centre of Khobi. History attributes the construction of the monastery to King Gubaz, David the Builder, Queen Tamar and Tsotne Dadiani. The church is decorated with ornaments and frescos. Prior to the Soviet rule the church had been home to St. Mary's Robe, Queen Tamar's cross and other relics. During the medieval age Khobi Monastery served as a seat to the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia. It is possible to get to Khobi Monastery by car as well as on foot (20-30 minutes).  
  • Dadiani Palace (nowadays museum) XIX c. - is located in Zugdidi, near the city centre. The museum complex consists of palaces of Queen of Samegrelo Ekaterine Chavchavadze-Dadiani and Prince niko Dadiani, princely church and the botanical palace built by the Dadiani family. Exhibits of world importance are stored in the museum, together with other relics.  
  • Rukhi Fortress - is located in village Rukhi of Zugdidi Municipality, 8 km away from Zugdidi city Centre. In order to get to the fortress, you must follow the road toward Sukhumi. The fortress is easily visible from the main road.
