July 31 - World Rangers Day

July 31 - World Rangers Day

July 31st is the World Ranger Day. This day commemorates rangers killed or injured in the line of duty, and celebrates the work rangers do to protect the world’s natural and cultural treasures.

In 2011, while attempting to extinguish a fire at Vashlovani National Park, Ranger Dursun Suramnidze was killed.

In 2012, Ranger Merab Arevadze, while performing his duties in Borjomi - Kharagauli National Park, became a victim of ruthless actions carried out by a group of poachers.

The Agency of Protected Areas will honor their memory and hope that Rangers’ contribution towards the protection and development of National Parks is properly recognized and will always be appreciated by the public.
