Austrian Experts Visit Imereti Caves Protected Areas

From March 3 through March 9, 2014, within the framework of the EU-funded Twinning project “Strengthening the Management of Protected Areas of Georgia”, the Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection hosted Austrian Experts – Rudolf Pavusa and Martin Kralik.

The Aim of the visit was an installation of hydrological and precipitation measuring equipments at Prometheus and Sataplia Caves of Imereti Caves Protected Areas Administration.    

It should be noted, that in order to maintain special microclimate inside the Sataplia and Prometheus Caves, the indoor temperature of the Caves should constantly vary from 13C to 14C. Therefore, precise control of temperature and humidity is vitally important for the maintaining the viability of Caves.   

During the visit Austrian experts conducted research of microclimate components such as: temperature, humidity, concentration of radon in the air, carrying capacity of water in the Cave and etc. Furthermore, the employees of Imereti Caves Protected Areas have been trained to properly manage and process the information acquired from as a result of working of the new equipment.

In future, the obtained information will be sent to Austria for further examination by experts, as a result of which the proper advises will be given to the stuff of Imereti Caves Administration involved in the observation procedures.
