On June 7, 2013 the Yong Ranger certificate award ceremony was held on the territory of Borjomi-Kaharaguli National Park Administration. The Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas Mr. Rati Japaridze attended the ceremony and granted the young rangers with certificate diplomas.
The Young Ranger program was implemented with the support of UNDP. Fifty students from five different schools of Borjomi Municipality participated in this project. During the launch of the project the students had a possibility to get involved in a number of park activities, such as getting acquainted with everyday tasks and duties of a ranger, installing of camera traps, observing footprints of different animals, learning methods of fighting with harmful bugs and obtaining necessary outdoor skills.
During the award ceremony the students swore the Young Ranger’s Oath and talked about their impressions and experience. In addition, they also were rewarded with the printed materials of APA (Agency of Protected Areas).
The project is important in terms of raising awareness of nature protection amongst the society, as well as promotion of Protected Areas and popularization of ranger activities in general.
