Strict Security Measures at Tbilisi NP

On February 11 and 14, 2014, the rangers of Martkopi district of Tbilisi National Park identified several cases of illegal wood logging. Administration rangers detained the violators and according to the Article 64-1 of Georgian Administrative Code, administrative violation protocols have been produced. Protocols were forwarded to the Gardabani District Court for the further investigation.

It should be noted that Tbilisi NP is one of the most vulnerable protected areas in Georgia in terms of illegal logging; several cases have been detected in the past year, as a result of which the Administration of the Park strengthened patrolling activities and toughened the penalties. It is planned to carry out additional protection and control measures in the future, such as installation of some additional camera-traps as a result of which should make it easier to identify the violators.
