Review of the Project implemented within the framework of the WTO
The Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and financial support of the German Government is implementing the project called Strengthening the possibilities of the Protected Areas of Georgia. On December 17, 2013, in the framework of project the workshop on delivering the information to the tourism stakeholders and other interested parties regarding the implemented activities and working methodologies was held at the Hotel Citadines.
The event was opened by the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia Rati Japaridze who talked about the aim of the project; afterwards, the implementing partners – Georgian Tourism Association and Biodiversity research and Conservation Center NACRES provided information about their contribution to the activities planned for the project implementation process.
The workshop was also attended by the representative of the UNWTO Michael Meyer who spoke about the possibilities of development of sustainable tourism in Georgia, summarized the current activities and discussed the next steps to be taken for the fulfillment of the mentioned project.
It should be mentioned that on the current stage of project implementation several new tourist products such as Zip-line and Canyoning in Mtirala, geological trails in Lagodekhi Protected Areas, eco paddling in Kolkheti National Park and cycling routes in Tbilisi National Park have been developed and some of them will be finished no later than April 2014.
