Construction of Visitor Centre and Administrative Building in Javakheti

The construction of visitor centre and administrative building has begun in Akhalkalaki. Minister of Environmental and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia Khatuna Gogaladze, Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas Rati Japaridze, and representatives of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Reconstruction and Development Credit Bank (KfW) attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the centre and administrative building.

Khatuna Gogaladze also visited Lake Kartsakhi, which is part of Javakheti Protected Areas, and acquainted herself with the local biodiversity.

The construction of the visitor Centre and administrative building is financed by KfW and is being supervised by WWF Germany within the framework of the project “Establishment of Javakheti National Park in Georgia” (project cost: 2,250,000 EUR). During the project implementation process, Javakheti National Park and five wetland sanctuaries were established. It must be emphasized that several socio-economic projects have already been implemented and are underway. It is also planned to develop trans-boundary cooperation and to install tourist infrastructure in the park territory.

WWF prepared a management plan for the project, which was approved by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection in 2013. Javakheti Protected Areas will be managed in accordance with the aforementioned plan for the next six years.
