As part of the week dedicated to World Wetlands Day, the Agency of Protected Areas and its territorial administrations carried out an educational campaign.

To raise environmental awareness among the younger generation across Georgia, the Agency of Protected Areas—along with the administrations of Kolkheti, Kobuleti, Javakheti, Kintrishi, Kazbegi, Imereti Caves, and other protected areas—organized lectures, seminars, field lessons, educational presentations, eco-tours, quiz competitions, and other activities for various school students and university students. Nearly 600 young people participated in these events.

It is worth noting that Georgia joined the Ramsar Convention in 1996, which protects the world's most important wetland ecosystems. Today, Georgia has four Ramsar Sites of international importance: Kolkheti National Park, Kobuleti Protected Areas, and the Madatapa and Bugdasheni lakes of Javakheti Protected Areas. Their combined area spans 31,529 hectares, accounting for 3.5% of the total area of protected areas. These territories are unique in their biodiversity and play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance and climate regulation.

Furthermore, since 2021, two of Georgia's wetland protected areas—Kolkheti National Park and Kobuleti Protected Areas, alongside Mtirala National Park and Kintrishi Protected Areas—have been protected by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage under the nomination "Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands of Georgia."
