Natural Monument
There are 45 Natural Monuments in Georgia, with a total area of 2,730.9 hectares. The first three Natural Monuments — Alazani Floodplain, Takhti-Tepha, and Eagle Gorge — were established in 2003 within the Vashlovani Protected Areas.
A Natural Monument is one of the categories of protected areas. It is a relatively small area of national importance featuring compact ecosystems with rare, unique, and highly aesthetic characteristics; individual geomorphological and hydrological formations; individual plant specimens; or fossilized remains of living organisms.
A Natural Monument may include a cave, gorge, river delta, forest stand, or other natural feature.
