During the winter season, the number of visitors to Georgia's protected areas increased by nearly 17% compared to the same period last year.

According to data from December–January–February of 2024–2025, a total of 58,618 visitors visited the protected areas, whereas in 2025–2026, the number of visitors grew to 68,296, representing an increase of nearly 17% compared to the previous year.

The statistics confirm that both short single-day routes—such as Prometheus Cave (11,480 visitors), Tsalka Canyon (7,401), and Martvili Canyon (6,801)—and hiking destinations—such as Mtirala National Park (20,137) and Tbilisi National Park (9,100)—are particularly popular.

“Traveling to protected areas in winter is becoming more popular year after year. It is important for infrastructure and services to be appropriate so that travel is possible at any time of the year. This direction remains one of the main goals for the Agency of Protected Areas,” stated Tamar Khakhishvili, Deputy Chairperson of the Agency of Protected Areas.
