Racha Protected Areas Have Been Expanded
Racha National Park has expanded by 4,759 hectares within the territory of Ambrolauri Municipality. Additionally, the Ambrolauri Protected Landscape and five natural monuments—the caves of Usholta, Kidobani, Sakishore, Muradi, and Shareula - were established.
Racha National Park was originally established in 2023 in the Oni Municipality, located in the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region.
The creation of protected areas and the expansion of existing ones play a crucial role in developing the protected areas system, conserving biodiversity, sustainably managing natural resources, expanding regional recreational spaces, and driving tourism development. The expansion of Racha National Park will support local traditional farming, as well as biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration.
