A New Protected Area Created in Samegrelo – Egrisi National Park
Egrisi National Park encompasses the territories of Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotsku, and Martvili Municipalities, covering an area of 37,074 hectares.
Egrisi National Park belongs to the Colchis biogeographical area and is distinguished by its unique flora and fauna. Due to favorable climatic conditions, ancient vegetation cover known as "Colchic flora" has been preserved in the area. Narrow local endemic species found exclusively in Samegrelo also occur here.
The establishment of Egrisi National Park will contribute to the protection and preservation of the region's unique biodiversity, ecosystems, and landscapes, the sustainable management of natural resources, as well as the promotion of the region and the development of ecotourism.
The law "On the Establishment and Management of Egrisi National Park" will enter into force on January 1, 2027.
