A climate monitoring system has been installed in Kazbegi National Park

A climate monitoring system has been installed in Kazbegi National Park.

Within the framework of cooperation between the Agency of Protected Areas and the Research Institute of the Korea National Park Service (KNPS), two Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) were installed in Kazbegi National Park.

The stations provided to the Agency by the Korean side ensure continuous and automated monitoring of climatic conditions. The system records air and soil temperature and humidity, precipitation, as well as wind direction and speed.

The collected data will allow specialists to observe changes in climatic conditions over the long term, identify current trends, and assess risks associated with climate change, particularly in high-mountain ecosystems that are vulnerable to climate change.

The information obtained from the monitoring will be used to assess the state of Kazbegi National Park's ecosystems and to plan management, conservation, and climate change adaptation measures for the protected area.

The installation of the stations was carried out through the joint work of a delegation visiting under the leadership of Kim Jin-Tae, Director of the Korea National Park Research Institute, and representatives of the Agency of Protected Areas.

Cooperation between the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia and the Korea National Park Service began on the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2021. Within the framework of this cooperation, the parties share professional expertise with each other. Firefighting equipment, ranger walkie-talkies, and educational materials have already been handed over to the Agency.

In 2025, the signing of a sister park agreement between Bukhansan and Kazbegi National Parks further deepened cooperation between the two sides.
