Ongoing projects
CoNatureGuard – Cooperation for Fire Prevention and Nature Conservation in Protected Areas of the Black Sea Basin
Project
On 26 February 2026, a new international initiative was officially launched under Phase II of the 2021–2027 Interreg VI-B NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, with the LEPL Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia as one of its partners.
The initiative aims to strengthen forest fire prevention and protect important natural ecosystems in the Black Sea region.
Over the 26-month implementation period, ending in April 2028, partner countries will jointly develop fire risk assessments, introduce modern monitoring technologies, including thermal drones and sensor-based early warning systems, establish cross-border communication channels, and conduct joint training exercises. The project will cover more than 75 protected areas across the region.
