LEPL Agency of Protected Areas

The project aimed to improve the management of protected areas in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, expand their biogeographical boundaries, and strengthen connectivity to ensure better protection of the unique Colchic forests. It also sought to enhance the management of Adjara’s protected areas and develop cross-border cooperation with Turkey’s Camili Biosphere Reserve. Furthermore, the project supported the Agency of Protected Areas in improving financial planning within protected area administrations, encouraged active participation of local communities in protected area management, and promoted the sustainable improvement of the economic conditions of rural residents.

Within the framework of the project, Machakhela National Park was established, inventory and equipment were procured for protected area administrations, training sessions were organized, the necessary documentation was prepared, and other activities were carried out.
