Equipping and Development of Lagodekhi Protected Areas
Project
Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed on 14 September 2022 between the LEPL Agency of Protected Areas and British Petroleum (BP), the project “Equip and Develop Lagodekhi Protected Area” was implemented from 2024 to 2026.
The project aimed to modernize the infrastructure of Lagodekhi Protected Areas, promote ecotourism development, and strengthen the environmental monitoring system. With a budget of GEL 253,839, the project included the upgrade of the solar power system and the installation of solar panels, ensuring a stable energy supply for visitor and ranger cottages. To improve ecotourism services, camping areas and cottages were equipped with solar-powered shower facilities. A modern climate monitoring station was also installed on the site to provide real-time meteorological data.
The project also included awareness-raising campaigns on biodiversity and renewable energy. Rangers of the Lagodekhi Protected Areas Administration received training on safety regulations and measures for monitoring and protecting the health of wild animals. In addition, the design of an informational brochure on rules of conduct around wild animals in nature was prepared.
As a result of the project, infrastructure, visitor service quality, and the effectiveness of management and monitoring in Lagodekhi Protected Areas were significantly improved, fully aligning with the sustainable development objectives set out in the memorandum.
