Kobuleti State Nature Reserve
The Kobuleti Protected Areas, comprising the Kobuleti State Nature Reserve and Kobuleti Managed Nature Reserve, were established to preserve the unique wetland ecosystems of international importance recognized under the Ramsar Convention, particularly as habitats for waterfowl, and to safeguard this valuable natural heritage.
The peatlands, distinguished by their diversity of waterfowl and plant species, are located in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and cover the northeastern part of the Kobuleti coastal plain.
The Kobuleti Protected Areas provide important habitats for migratory, breeding, and wintering waterfowl species. The boreal species found here, including Sphagnum, or peat moss, and the insectivorous sundew (Drosera), are of particular interest to botanists.
The Kobuleti Protected Areas include the Ispani 1 and Ispani 2 Sphagnum peatlands, where trails have been developed, allowing visitors to take part in educational and scientific tours. The Visitor Centre is combined with the administrative building. Visitors can also rent swamp skis and explore the Sphagnum peatlands.
