Machakhela Protected Landscape
The Machakhela Protected Landscape is located in Khelvachauri Municipality, in the Machakhela Valley. Its total area is 4,292 hectares.
The main purpose of its establishment is to protect unique natural ecosystems from destruction, preserve the rich national heritage — including folk architecture monuments and historical-cultural landscapes — and balance the socio-economic interests of local communities with environmental concerns through the active protection of the natural environment and the preservation of traditional agricultural activities.
The Machakhela Protected Landscape is distinguished by its beautiful landscape views, waterfalls, rich biodiversity, historical and cultural monuments, local traditions, and folklore.
The Law of Georgia on the Establishment and Management of the Machakhela Protected Landscape entered into force on January 1, 2023.
